It has been a perfect start for Team Lesotho in the Boxing Road To Paris – African Qualifying Tournament for the XXXIII Olympic Summer Games currently taking place in Dakar, Senegal.
Mathealira SEHOLOHOLO got the ball rolling with a convincing 5-0 win against his Gambian opponent in the 57kg category on Saturday. This was followed up by Monaheng KHEBE who also scored 5-0 against Kenya in the 63.5kg category yesterday. Meanwhile, Olympic Scholarship holder, Arena PAKELA, booked his place in the quarter-finals with a 4-1 win, also against a Kenyan opponent.
On today’s programme (11/09), two of our boxers will be fighting to book themselves a place in the quarter-finals. In the afternoon session, Monaheng KHEBE will be up against a tough RSA competitor and later in the evening session, Retselisitsoe KOLOBE will face Morocco in the 51kg category.
The tournament runs from 9-15 September with only the winner in each weight category of the men’sevent securing a place for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
