Message from the IOA President, Mr Isidoros Kouvelos

On this day 60 years ago (16th of June 1961), the International Olympic Academy opened its
doors to the Youth of the world, inaugurating with the most emphatic way the center of
Olympic Education and Research that Pierre de Coubertin had envisioned.
It was the first day of the 1st International Session for Young Participants, at the place where
nowadays the premises of the IOA are, in Ancient Olympia, with the presence of 31 students
from 24 countries. From that day and for 60 consecutive years, the IOA constitutes the main pillar of Olympic
Education internationally, spreading the Olympic values through its educational programs,
educating every year the new ambassadors of Olympism world widely.

46 days training camp for two Lesotho boxers

It’s been a hectic past month with our athletes attempting qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games “Tokyo 2020”
Two Boxers – Moroke MOKHOTHO (56kg) and Arena PAKELA (75kg) together with National Coach Hopolang MABELE have left today for Lusaka, Zambia for a 46 days training camp with Team Zambia at Zambia Sports Development Centre. The team will be joining sprinter Mosito LEHATA who started camp on the 28th April.

LNOC Celebrated Chrismas Differently this year

The Lesotho National Olympic Committee celebrated Christmas differently this year. The celebration was done through distribution of grocery hampers to sixty athletes from thirty national sport federations. The hampers were distributed to those athletes in need of food during this festive season which is a hard one as the sporting fraternity is still experiencing COVID-19 pandemic.

VOLUNTEERS TRAINING ON COVID-19 AWARENESS PROJECT

The Olympafrica Youth Ambassador Programme ( OYAP) under the auspices of the Lesotho National Olympic Committee conducted the training on COVID-19 Prevention for Adolescent Girls and Young Women ( AGYW) and their Male counterparts. The training was held on Sunday, the 11th and Monday , the 12th October 2020. The training was meant to equip the Peer Educator, On-Site Screeners and Data Collectors with relevant skills that will enable them to implement the awareness and educational campaign effectively. The project has been funded by the Canadian Embassy in South Africa under its  Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI). Volunteer Opportunities at Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) on COVID-19 Response.

The Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) through the support of the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) seeks to prevent the spread of COVID-19 amongst Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) through different interventions that are geared towards minimizing the spread of infections and hence building resilient communities. The project aims to recruit volunteers in different cadres who will be the primary implementers of the interventions to be carried out in Maseru urban councils. (e.g Thetsane, Abia, Lithoteng, Motimposo, Central, Qoaling, Lithabaneng, etc).

The deadline for submission of required documentation is on or before Monday, the 28th September 2020.

Marketing and Communication for Lesotho NOC

The Lesotho National Olympic Committee through its Media and Marketing Commission has embarked on the development of the Communication and Marketing Framework of the NOC. The participants for the session are National Sports Federations Public Relations and Communications Officers. The development of the LNOC Communication and Marketing Framework will assist the organization to position itself regarding its Marketing and communication strategies.

In a way to observe the safety precautions and guidelines during this
pandemic (COVID-19) the session has been scheduled to happen in two phases to ensure and observe social distancing and all other measures that can prohibit the spread of the virus.

TOKYO 2020 TAEKWONDO AFRICAN QUALIFIER

Team Taekwondo on the other hand will depart tomorrow for Rabat, Morocco for the Taekwondo African Qualifier starting on the 22nd to 23rd February 2020.
