Team Lesotho, fresh from the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, today paid a courtesy call to the Right Honourable The Prime Minister Ntsokoane MATEKANE at State House. The team was formally presented to the Prime Minister by CGA Lesotho President Mr. Letsatsi NTSIBOLANE, who introduced the entire delegation, including the Chef de Mission Ms. Mamotsabi LEKHABUNYANE and the nation’s Commonwealth Games Bronze Medallists, Pooana KHOAHLI and Rapelang MASELELA respectively.
The occasion was graced by several dignitaries, including the Minister of Sports, Honourable Mputi MPUTI, Minister of Communications Honourable Nthati MOOROSI, Minister of Natural Resources Honourable Mohlomi MOLEKO ,the British High Commissioner to the Kingdom of Lesotho Her Excellency Martine SOBEY and other senior Government officials.
In his keynote address, the Right Honourable The Prime Minister warmly welcomed Team Lesotho and congratulated the athletes on their outstanding achievements, particularly the historic bronze medals won at the Games. He reaffirmed the Government of Lesotho’s unwavering commitment to the development of Sport and pledged that the Government will continue to invest in and support the growth of sport across the country. The Prime Minister also called upon the private sector, development partners and all stakeholders to join hands in supporting and investing in Sport, recognizing its power to inspire, unite and transform lives. As a token of appreciation for their remarkable achievement, the Prime Minister announced a cash reward of M50,000 for each bronze medallist. This is in addition to the M20,000 performance incentives that will be awarded by the Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) Lesotho.
The reception marked a fitting celebration of Team Lesotho’s dedication, resilience and historic success, while reaffirming the nation’s commitment to empowering its athletes to achieve even greater success on the international stage.
The celebrations continued at Makoanyane Square, where members of the public gathered to welcome the athletes home and show their support.
